Homework, Jan. 5-9

Monday

1. Vocabulary/ Spelling: Complete Wordly Wise 15A: Finding Meanings. B. Create word webs for the first two Wordly Wise 15 words (disaste &flee)C. Write definitions for the first three of this week’s “5tGrade No Excuses” words. (No Excuses words — there, their, they’re, certain, carefully, wait.

2. Math: Complete Greatest Common Factor (Reteach 9.3). B. Complete class work if necessary.

3. Language Arts: Complete final draft of personal narrative, if necessary.

4. Social Studies/Language Arts: Read paragraphs 1-3 of African American Cowboys of Texas. Highlight or underline the topic sentence of each paragraph. Then, on a separate sheet of paper, list three important details from EACH paragraph that support the topic sentence.

5. Reading: Read for twenty minutes and complete Home Reading Log.

Tuesday

1. Vocabulary/ Spelling: Complete Wordly Wise 15B: Just the Right Word. B. Create word webs for the next three Wordly Wise 15 words (fracture, immense, & intense). Be sure to include all definitions for each word on your webs. C. Write definitions for the last three “No Excuses” words.

2. Math: Complete Fraction Worksheet (on back of Greatest Common Factor). B. Complete class work.

3. Social Studies/Language Arts: Read paragraphs 4-7 of African American Cowboys of Texas. Highlight or underline the topic sentence of each paragraph. Then, on a separate sheet of paper, list three important details from EACH paragraph that support the topic sentence. B. Begin working on IB Inquiry Project: People Initiate Changes that Affect Lives (Due Jan. 23).

4. Reading: Read for twenty minutes and complete Home Reading Log.

Wednesday

1. Vocabulary/ Spelling: Complete Wordly Wise 15C: Applying Meanings. B. Create word webs the next three Wordly Wise 15 words (investigate, lurch, & major). Be sure to include all definitions for each word on your webs. C. Write 6 sentences using each of the “No Excuses” words. Your sentences should show that you understand the meaning of these words.

2. Math: Complete the odd numbered problems for Equivalent Fractions & Shade the Circles activity at the bottom of the page. B. Complete class work if necessary.

3. Language Arts: Complete reading handout -- "Edison, the Great Inventor."

4. Social Studies: Work on IB Inquiry Project

5. Reading: Read for twenty minutes and complete Home Reading Log.

Thursday

1. Vocabulary/ Spelling: Study for your vocabulary - spelling test by using syllabication to create 3 spelling pyramids for the first 8 WW15 words (on pg. 116) and for the 6 “No Excuses” words. Know all definitions

2. Math: Complete the even numbered problems for Equivalent Fractions. B. Complete class work if necessary.

5. Reading: Read for twenty minutes and complete Home Reading Log.

Weekend:

1. Reading: Read for twenty minutes each day and complete Home Reading Log.

2. Math: Complete problems for Fractions and Mixed Numbers (Problem Solving 9.5). Be sure to show your work.

3. Language Arts: Create brainstorm/prewrite for next week’s writing assignment and write a first draft.
