Wednesday's Math HW

Tonight's math homework (which is also listed on the HW post):

Create decimal multiplication models for the following 5 problems:
1. 0.3 x 0.4
2. 1.2 X 0.5
3. 0.8 X 0.7
4. 2.7 X 0.9
5. 0.9 X 0.9

Information for doing this assignment can be found at the following: http://www.pearsonsuccessnet.com/snpapp/iText/products/0-328-08614-2/ch02/092.html

This is a link to an online version of the Scott Foresman/Addison Wesley math textbook. You should be able to use the index and find information about almost every skill and operation we will be doing this year, as well as practice problems (no answer key) and other online tools and tests. (I stumbled across the site while searching for something else, so am not sure if this link is always available.)

Dear Parents,

I hope everyone had a restful and relaxing Intercession. It was just the break we needed to recharge ourselves for our continuing learning adventure.

We’ll be getting right back into the swing of things this week as we close out the first quarter of this school year.

In Math, we will review Unit 2 content and skills ~ such probability, conversion of linear measurement [inches to feet to yards, etc.], multiplication of decimal numbers, and lattice multiplication ~ in preparation for Friday’s unit assessment.

In Language Arts, we will be learning about organization, voice, word choice and other traits of effective writers. We will also continue reviewing subjects, predicates, and sentence fragments.

We’ll be integrating Social Studies and Reading as we use our textbook for an overview of the Civil War. We are also planning to learn a lot about this historical era as students begin sharing the information in their Civil War scrapbooks.

Finally, we’re all looking forward to meeting and working with our new principal, Mr. Michael Rossano. Mr. Rossano also wants to meet and get to know all the parents at IIAM. To that end, he has scheduled a series of dates by grades to meet with you. The 5th grade parent meeting will be next Wednesday, Oct. 15. It will begin at 6:30 pm, and last for one hour.

One added note: students received graded Social Studies, Language Arts, and spelling tests today. Please look over the tests, then sign the cover sheet & return (w/ the tests still attached). Information about "test autopsies" is included, as usual, to give students to opportunity to improve their test grades.

Also, please be aware that the 1st quarter closes out this Friday, Oct. 10, so all autopsies, make-up work, etc. must be turned in by the end of the school day.

Working together for student success,
Mrs. Pede
